It is wise to talk with others who are in the business and have nothing to gain by talking with you.
What is the best way to avoid the scams? One word: RESEARCH! Dont be lazy and simply believe the people you are communicating with as you search for ways to make money online. Do your research and ask a lot of questions. Be wise and take your time to think about the business. Whenever someone is pressuring for an instant decision, you need to put them on the SCAM list. Do not be discouraged, just as in buying a house you would check the foundation. When exploring an online work from home business, get your questions answered and listen to your feelings.
